M
ost canal work is related to pleasure boat residential canals.  However, there are also many industrial clean up projects that come under this classification that we have successfully completed.

Energy Resources, Inc. started its first canal dredging project for the City of Naples, Florida in 1990.  It started out as a $400,000 project.  The City was so pleased with our work that it added two additional projects that brought the total work to almost $1,000,000.  Energy Resources, Inc. has never left Florida since this first project.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has jurisdiction over all this type of work in Florida.  We have seen significant changes in the regulatory environment for this work over the last ten years.  The turbidity requirements imposed by FDEP for the dredge and spoil sites are a major factor in successfully performing this type of work.  Some Florida projects take place in a water body that is classified as Outstanding Florida Water.  This means there is no turbidity allowed.  Other classes of Florida waters allow 29 ntu’s of turbidity over background.  Some projects allow no discharge from the spoil sites either because of exemption or because of the chemical analysis of the dredge material.

There are 15 dredging companies that were our competitors in the early 1990’s that are no longer in business.  One reason we have been successful in Florida is that we, as a company, have been educated on the new standards and have adapted to change.
